What's in a name?

Yesterday I finished this!

This? yes, this, because so far it is unamed and has no other reference.

There are those who's naming is brilliant. Jean Campbell just named her piece 'Lilium' (same retreat by the way, more soon)

and Rachel's names are always intriguing, Ootheca, H. Liliripes.....

This needs a fitting name. I sometimes invite my husband into the the name game. He named Terracita, La Boquita and most recently Ripplestiltsken so perhaps I should ask him his thoughts on this.

A word or two more about the retreat. Next March 12 - 14 San Francisco, Beading by the Bay! Artists, Marcia DeCoster, Jean Campbell, Maggie Meister. Brought to you by the promoter of Hooked on Wire, Susan Kazarian. Website, project and registration details coming soon.

  7. I love this piece, I love the colors. I'm happy to know that others have trouble naming their work. My husband has been known to help out also.

It looked very Victorian to me. Good luck naming it. Whatever you call it, it's beautiful.

  8. I think it is a truly beautiful piece. For some reason it reminderd me of a solar eclipse I witnessed on august 11th 1999 in the North of France. I guess the orange hot color of the sun and the purple sky around it during the coming and going of the eclipse made me think of it.

So I would call it Solar Eclipse. It is of a rare beauty that doesn't come around often.

  9. Marcia-

As you know I adore this necklace, too! It's very Victorian and simply gorgeous. For some strange reason it reminded me of the Mother Goose Nursery Rhyme "Dr. Foster Went to Gloucester" and so I searched for the rhyme online. Lookie here: http://www.mamalisa.com/?t=hes&p=1337&l=D... It's a similar colorway!

If "Gloucester" isn't quite right, you might poke around on this Victorian nursery rhyme site to find some other words that pique your interest.

  10. The orange reminds me of the bright color of a Phoenix, the symbol of rebirth....it also has a 'feathery' look to it....but that's just MY interpretation...
Beautiful. Gorgeous piece. I bow yet again to the master, as I will never be worthy....

  12. Another wow! I was going to suggest Firy Opalescence, but then I read the post about the Solar Eclipse in France and the colors matching. I think the name Solar Eclipse resonates with the kind of energy that wonderful necklace has.

  13. What a fabulous piece, Marcia! Is it too late to get it in the book? ;) It reminds me of the sunrise photo you posted in the previous blog entry, Might I humbly suggest Glimmer of Sunrise?

  15. My thought EXACTLY, Beverly. I commented earlier about an idea, but as soon as I saw todays post, I knew that IT - or one soon to come, will have to be in honor of Marcia's beloved mother.
    Blessings to your family, Marcia,
enjoy each other and the memories you share....
