Chaos!

Unfortunately being surrounded by Chaos makes me feel chaotic. Remodeling is like that, multiple days of a new French Door install. When you're house was built in 1940 it can be full of surprises. Removing the threshold of the old door revealed uneven cement from the foundation. The previous door was suspended between it's frame with nails and did not rest on the floor as one would expect with today's standards. Mark has been painstakingly shaping a new board around the old cement, chipping away as necessary to get a level support for the new door. The dining room table and chairs are in the living room and the dust and noise level are high. The blue tarp hung in the doorway while he works creates an eerie blue glow and it is impossible to turn the heat on. I know I will love this new door, the first element of our total veranda and side yard remodel, but at the moment.....you get the picture.

I am once again wrangling the mess in the studio to a tolerable level in order to instill the sense of peace I crave. I find it difficult to be productive in a mess and difficult to take the time to clean the mess in order to be productive. A bit of a catch 22 there.

Perhaps a return to a pretty blog tomorrow!

  1. I can totally relate to the catch 22 state of your studio. I have the same problem and haven't figured out how to deal with it :)! Love your work; it's very inspiring.

  2. I know exactly how you feel, Marcia. Whenever we have something done to the house, I can't settle. Right now we had new siding put on two days before the first blizzard to hit the mid-Atlantic. The siding is up and the house is secure but the details aren't complete and all my planters and such are out of place and now encased in about 50" of snow! We lost Fios for several hours today because of the storm and just got it back and I have a blanket over the stove vent because the cover outside had to be ordered to fit the new siding! I can share your feelings. I'm actually glad to hear I'm not the only one who is disturbed by these things. I hope you get back to normal soon.

  3. Poor thing! This sounds awful! But hang on, it will soon be over and the reward will be worth it.

  5. Luckily for us, when we moved into our house (built in 1928), we didn't really have to do anything to it. It was in pristine condition! We tore up the ugly carpeting (just 'cause it was ugly) and discovered beautiful hardwood floors throughout 75% of the house. We love those hardwood floors!

As for my "studio", right now, all I have is one corner of the dining room. I store my beads in my son's room, but that's going to have to come to an end pretty soon. Not sure what I'll do then. And my husband HATES the creative clutter that occupies most of the dining room when I am beading "in the zone". Hehehe...
