I think you probably know me as a seed bead girl and that would be natural, that is where I have put my artistic focus over the last few years. Time being what it is, the seed beads keep me busy and I do love them. But reading my friend Val's blogpost on needle felting, gave me pause to consider how we choose directions.
Back in 2005 when I was newly 'retired' from my corporate job and had moved to San Diego where I didn't now anyone, I wandered into the Grove in Northpark one day (always on the quest to locate other artistic souls) and found my girls. I had been knitting quite a lot at the time and Susan asked me if I would teach. With Cat Bordhi's permission and the purchase of her book, A Treasury of Magical knitting, I taught the moebius purse, and it was magical.
On an inside pocket of one of the samples, I had needle felted my initials and on the aqua one above, I needle felted the colorful circles onto the purse. That little act, something I have not gone on to pursue, was the jumping off point for Val's incredible needle felted art.
Around the same time I took a nuno felt class with another friend Arlene, who has gone on to excel in that artform, creating beautiful scarves, pillows and garments.
I am so fortunate to have such creative souls in my life.
You can still see your colorful hand in those gorgeous purses for sure! Works of art! Thanks for showing us this other side of your artistic soul.
