the self doubt kind....I know some of you may want to reassure me my designs are good, I've enjoyed success in the bead world, my first book continues to do well, and thank you, on a rational level I know all that. And still days come up when you question your abilities to produce a beautiful design. When you compare your work to others, and even then I know they do their work and I do mine. I'm sure I will banish the blues shortly, after all I don't generally share this part of my life. I know I am lucky to be doing what I love, living in a home that nurtures me, living with a partner who always stands in support of me. And yet...I am having one of 'those' days.
Do you have 'those' days? It's funny, I'm within hours of completion on a piece that I love, I have a bulletin board full of designs I'm happy with.....my illustrator skills continue to improve....some days are just like this. I think a cup of tea and a little rest are in order.
I'm leaving you with a happy image from a fabric produced by Tina Givens.
I want to bead this whimsical little house, go inside and take a nap.....
Tea AND some chocolate.
ReplyDeleteAnd everybody knows this place you're at.
Same here, nothing like chocolate to cheer you up but not too much hey you don't want to spend the rest of the day in bed:o) Personally, I think that doubt is part of a natural process and that's one of the reasons you're so good Marcia because you question your talent ! I hope I made my point because my English sucks sometimes, especially at night ...
ReplyDeleteBye Marcia, hope the tea and chocolate did the trick
Ingrid
Actually I am so glad to hear you say that. We sometimes forget that even out "idols" are indeed human and that the blues can hit anyone. Chocolate can help but friends help more!
ReplyDeleteHugs!
I have a TON of those days. In fact, I made a vow the other day to stop looking at certain blogs/web sites and stop buying magazines that would make me feel inferior. That's helped!
ReplyDeleteOh, and lots of pie.
Thanks gals, it has been a life long struggle and unfortunately the cure of pie and chocolate create other problems.....but I'm working on it!
ReplyDeleteWe've all been there Marcia. I'm of the opinion that in the process of personal & creative growth we hit plateaus along the way. I think that might be where you are right now .... and soon ready to move on again. Hang in there girl!
ReplyDeleteI've been there too Marcia. Your keeping up with a huge schedule that is bound to wear you down a day or two. Take some time to do what nurtures your spirit. Sending good thoughts your way.
ReplyDeleteOh I have those days!!! I certainly have those days.
ReplyDeleteI'm in the infancy of my design career and wondering if I'm good enough. I just have to pick myself up and keep going.
I'm sure after your nap that's just what you will do too.
All I can do is echo everyone else's comments... we've all been there. I find a good long walk and then a cup of coffee with a friend tend to sort me out (though my walks are over the muddy local farm tracks, not the sunny California countryside!).
ReplyDeleteGetting out for a walk at my favorite place is what does it for me. Clears my head and gives me time to organize my thoughts/make a plan. Until then, know tomorrow is a brand new day!
ReplyDeleteEveryone gets the blues I think. What helps me is yoga, going outside and walking in my garden (yes, even in the winter when most things are dormant), and making something - but you're way ahead of me there! And if there's a cute baby around baby-watching is always an upper.
ReplyDeleteoh Robin, how I wish I could watch the cute baby....she lives 8 hours north and it's a heartbreak for me.
ReplyDeleteMarcia...look in the mirror and say "I am FABULOUS!" your are awesome and your bead work is awesome! I know that we all have days like this and it stinks! When you have days like this just look at your book and the illustrations for your new book and think about the fact that your projects are so fantastic that they will forever be immortalized in print!

ReplyDeleteIt's reassuring to see that artists like you also have days like this. Forget the chocolate and enjoy that comforting cuppa!

I have to agree with everyone else. We all have these days. I think they help us to appreciate the good days. Babies work for me as well so download Tango for your iPhone or Skype & see the baby daily. I love tango! Hope your week gets better. Try a walk on the beach.
