This piece is called Sundial and is one of my Bead and Button submissions. You may notice the influence of my master class components. This is a spirit flight component but turned over with a pearl center and an extra row of picots around the latter stitch start both interior around the pearl and exterior, the aqua seeds.
The cubic right angle weave consists of curves and angles, my favorite use of cubic right angle weave. A hidden bail and a ribbon necklace finish off the pendant.
I love the shape and I can see the color appeal for some, but I am tempted to bead it again before submitting the catalog photo. I think there is something about this color brown that just reminds me of the ups truck.....I love the caribbean opal crystal tips, and the platinum pearl, but still I just can't quite get behind the combination.
Do you have color quandaries? Go to colors? Pieces that just don't quite speak to you? I'm going to give it a go with 460K bronzy green seeds, some pale matte aqua, and a bronze pearl center.....the crystals, not sure yet. I'll keep you posted!
I personally love it. CBO and shades of brown are beautiful to me! Maybe try all of the same colors but change the brown to a shiny bronze? 457L or 457G
ReplyDeleteIt will make the entire piece much brighter and allow for some contrast between the Matte Aqua seeds and the opal crystals.
I agree with Beki but if you want to leave the bronze matte then try a different shade of blue like an aquamarine AB or indicolite AB. It just looks odd to you because its not a signature "Marcia" color. I sometimes struggle when going out of my box (purples).... the piece itself is great.
ReplyDeleteThanks girls, I think you might be right Julie, it has no bronze, maybe that is what is making me twitchy!
ReplyDeleteI was going to say exactly what Beki said. Shiny bronze is the way I'd go. That way it will contrast more with the matte-ish finishes in the aqua seed beads and the crystals.
ReplyDeleteAs for color quandaries, today I'm working on alternate colorways of my Sakura Bouquet necklace. You'd think that they'd make flower petal beads in primarily flower colors, right? But no - lots of bronzes and copper finishes. Though those still might work, so I'm going to try them out. It'll definitely be much less feminine than the original though.
I think color is the first thing seen, and the design element with the most intense associative emotional content. Jewelery looks most like jewelry when it is shiny metal, but I like the color scheme you have, personally. Shine would probably make it feel more like jewelry-like. But it is softly lovely as you have made it.
